1. Red Mountain Golf Course

A man playing golf at Red Mountain Golf Course in Phuket.

Red Mountain Golf Course was designed by Jonathan Morrow. It is one of the best golf courses in Phuket, and it has the most unusual layouts.

It is located in the center of Phuket Island, near the Patong and Karon beaches. The Golf Course gets its name from the scenic surroundings of lush green forests and red rocks.

The Golf course has minimal and severe undulations for amateurs and professional golfers. The last six holes are considered the most difficult due to their elevation.

Some of the pro golfers I met said it is one of the most challenging layouts in Thailand. I am not a pro myself, but I agree with that. There are a lot of elevations, and each hole presents a different angle of difficulty.

The best thing, however, is that each spot offers an excellent view of the landscape, making play more enjoyable and rewarding.

2. Blue Canyon Country Club – Canyon Course

A woman playing golf at the Canyon Course of Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket.

Blue Canyon Country Club – Canyon Course is regarded as one of Asia’s most distinguished and prestigious championship golf courses. It is the only golf course to host the Johnnie Walker Classic thrice in 1994, 1998, and 2007.

It was designed by Yoshikazu Kato and is located on a tin mine, like many other golf courses in this region.

The holes are lined by palm trees on the front. It is set in an abandoned tin mine, displaying old strip mine characteristics throughout the property.

The golf course offers other clubhouse facilities, including three restaurants, a spa, a pro shop, a locker room, and a shower.

Condominium accommodations are also available on the property. This is perfect for digital nomads who want to stay and settle in for a day or two and focus on playing golf.

3. Blue Canyon Country Club – Lake Course

A woman playing golf at the Lake Course of Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket.

Located on the same property, the Blue Canyon Country Club—Lake Course is another golf marvel created by Yoshikazu Kato for amateur and professional golfers. It is close to the airport.

Blue Canyon’s Lake Course has an excellent layout with plenty of challenges. The 18-hole course is sculpted from an opencast mining landscape with minimal interruption to the natural landscape and wildlife, which allows you to enjoy the picturesque scenery. That said, my favorite time to play here is during sunset.

Of course, what makes the Lake Course more unique than the Canyon Course is its water hazard features, which are presented on the 17th and 18th holes.

4. Loch Palm Golf Club

A man and a woman posing with a plaque of appreciation in their hands from Loch Palm Golf Club in Phuket.

Loch Palm Golf Club, designed by Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai, is one of the easiest golf courses in Phuket.

Both local Thai golfers and digital nomads traveling to the island like it because of its ideal position.

The easy to medium difficulty level is matched with a parkland-style landscape. The golf course features a sizable lake that feeds water to the fairways.

This is one of the few golf courses where you can walk around the entire length of the course, so golf carts are optional. The parkland landscape is dotted with palm trees, providing plenty of shade to protect you from the sun.

Additionally, you can take advantage of the golf course’s clubhouse amenities, which serve real Thai food.

While it is not very long, it is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable golf courses I have played in Phuket.

5. Laguna Golf Phuket

The Laguna Golf Course has become one of the best golf courses in Phuket. It is located in the Laguna Hotel and Resort complex near Bangtao Beach.

It was redesigned in 2014 and has become more challenging ever since. The finishing of two holes is the most difficult.

The golf course is short, but the water hazards and sand bunkers presents a great challenge for even professional golfers. It also features a driving range, putting green, chipping green, and practice bunkers.

While at the Laguna Golf Club, you can enjoy Bang Tao Bay’s scenic natural beauty and tropical surroundings.

6. Mission Hills Phuket Golf Club Resort and Spa

A group of golfers playing at the Mission Hills Phuket Golf Club Resort and Spa in Phuket.

Mission Hills Phuket Golf Club Resort and Spa was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It is located 35 minutes from Patong Beach in the mangrove forest on Phuket’s northeast coast.

It is one of the best golf courses in Phuket, with holes running beside the Andaman Sea. It is so beautiful and unique!

Water comes into play on seven holes from the ocean. In addition to that, the occasional sea breezes also make the game very challenging at times.

Even though the terrain is relatively flat and easy to tread, golf carts are necessary.

It also offers a magnificent clubhouse, restaurant, spa, and a relaxing ocean view.

7. Katathong Golf Resort and Spa

A male and a female golfer are carrying their golf bags while walking at Katathong Golf Resort and Spa in Phuket.

Katathong Golf Resort and Spa is one of Phuket’s most challenging golf courses. It is located north of Phuket in the adjacent province of Phang Nga. From there, you can enjoy the lush green forest view.

It is also based on a former tin mine, and various traditional mining equipment is scattered throughout the golf course.

The 18-hole golf course features various natural waterfalls and streams, whose water also gets into the fairways, making the golfing experience more challenging.

There is a ravine on the right and bunkers and trees on the left.

The Golf course has a clubhouse, and right in front of it, there is a waterfall that channels the natural stream that comes down the hill.

I love that there are plenty of other activities available on the property. You can borrow a bicycle and roam around the resort, go for a swim in the pool, or have a relaxing tourmaline spa.

8. Phuket Country Club

A man is playing golf at Phuket Country Club in Phuket.

Phuket Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Phuket. It is popular among the locals and digital nomads for its short length and convenient location.

It is set in a valley, and the golf course passes through hills and limestone cliffs. The course has varied terrain, with a flat section, rolling ground, and a few holes that are almost in the jungle.

The first nine holes are the most undulating and testing. I love that the courses vary; some go over the hills, the pond, and across the buildings.

The Clubhouse and other facilities, along with the typical Thai charm and hospitality, make it one of Phuket’s most appealing golf courses.

This golf course also has an optional cart, so you can also walk through the course. It is an ideal choice for digital nomads who are high handicappers.

9. Aquella Golf Resort and Country Club

A man plays golf at Aquella Golf Resort and Country Club in Phuket.

Aquella Golf Resort and Country Club is located beside the Andaman Sea, 40 minutes north of Phuket. It was formerly the Thai Muang Golf Club, which is now being rebuilt by Pacific Coast Design from Australia.

The Golf Course has been dedicated as a ‘Resort Golf Course,’ especially for high-end golfers. To ensure smooth drainage during heavy downpours, a layer of thick sand is added all across the golf course.

The golf course is designed to be very open and gently undulating fairways.

I like to commend the friendly caddies and locker room staff here. They are very accommodating and professional. I often come here alone, but I am never bored with these friendly people around.

10. Phunaka Golf Course

A man is playing golf at the driving range of Phunaka Golf Course in Phuket.

Phunaka Golf Course is located in the Chalong area, providing convenient access for local residents and digital nomads visiting Phuket.

The golf course features a 9-hole, par-3 course suitable for golfers of all skill levels. The design focuses on providing a challenging yet enjoyable experience.

The property also includes a well-maintained driving range with multiple levels, offering an excellent practice facility. If you are a beginner, I suggest you explore this area first and get well-acquainted with your swings.

Better yet, enroll yourself at Phunaka Golf Academy, which provides professional golf lessons for beginners and experienced golfers looking to improve their game.

However, my favorite standout feature of Phunaka Golf Course is its night golf option. The course is equipped with lighting, allowing golfers to play in the evening. Because, let’s be honest, Phuket’s daytime weather can sometimes be too hot and harsh.
